The Raptor may just get a brother.
The Ford F-150 could follow in the footsteps of its larger F-Series SUPER Duty sibling by offering a Tremor off-road option. A report by Ford Authority claims that a single-cab, short-bed F-150 with Raptor-like cues that our spy photographers spotted may be a testbed to the Tremor.
The Tremor will be placed below Raptor, but above the FX4 Off-Road Package in the F-150’s off-road-ready hierarchy. It is expected to include off-road kit, such as an elevated suspension, additional underbody coverage, and the Raptor’s trail-control device. The Raptor’s 450-horsepower twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V6 is what motivates it, but the Tremor could instead use one F-150’s less common powertrains like its 290-hp naturally-aspirated 3.3-liter V6 and 325-hp twin-turbo, 2.7-liter bent-six. This combination would put the F-150 Tremor in direct competition with the Ram 1500 Rebel, and Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss. The F-150 Raptor and its cross-town rivals have formidable off-road capabilities, tough looks, and a look that is almost as impressive as the F-150 Raptor’s.
An F-150 Tremor seems perfectly reasonable to us. However, Ford Authority reports the package’s production options remain open. The site also notes that the Blue Oval could forgo offering the Tremor with the F-150 and instead keep the model in stock for the next-generation pickup. Ford spokeswoman said that the company does not speculate on future products when Ford was reached for comment. Ford will only know if they add a rock-crawling Tremor trim option to their F-150 models. We are happy that the F-150 Raptor is still around.
