Ford GT Production to End in December 2022

The end of an era.

The current generation Ford GT’s production run will end in 2022. We already miss it. This track-munching, endurance-racing supercar was the result of decades of experience on the international stage. Ford designed this Ford GT, much like the original GT40. It had one goal: win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This goal was achieved in stunning fashion on its first attempt. It is now down to the final 250 cars, marking the end for an era in motorsport history that will be remembered forever.

It was 50 years ago that Ford won the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GT40. This remarkable feat was possible only because of the years of hard work that went into building a race car capable beating Ferrari. Ferrari race cars were legendary around Le Mans, and nobody won more 24 hour Le Mans races than Ferrari in the 1950s or 1960s.

Ford Motor Company shifted its resources and additional funds to a campaign to humiliate Ferrari worldwide after Ford’s failed attempt to buy Ferrari. Ford defeated Ferrari with the help of legends such as Ken Miles and Bruce McLaren, Mario Andretti and many others, cemented its place as a Le Mans Legend.

Multimatic, the company that makes Ford GT, expects to finish production of all 1,350 units by December 2022 with the second generation nearing its end. We will have to wait until Ford reminds motorsport fans about its endurance racing heritage to see the third-generation Ford GT. While we are sad to see the end of production, we look forward to what the future holds.
