Toyota and Subaru have unveiled the concept version of their sports car. This preview of the rear-wheel-drive Toyota FT-86 II Concept shows the model that will hit European markets in 2012.

The Geneva Motor Show’s car features a shorter rear end than the 2000 GT and a lower front that looks more like the FT–HS concept from the 2010 NAIAS. The longer hood, which is also reminiscent the Toyota Supra Mark III, combined with other design elements creates a modern Batmobile appearance.

This is not a bad thing. It looks elegant from the sides, modern at the rear, and aggressive at the front. Toyota claims that the concept is very close to the final design of the production model. It measures 4,235mm in length, has a 2,570mm wheelbase and measures 1,795mm by 1,270mm in height. This car is approximately the same width as the Subaru Impreza STI but 200mm shorter in height and 350mm shorter overall.

The car has a boxer engine that is mated with a six-speed manual transmission. According to the automaker, the car’s rear-set cabin and mid-front engine location have contributed to a better balance and lower center of gravity. The engine specifications weren’t disclosed.
