Smart Celebrates 10 Years in the U.S. with a Special Edition Fortwo
The electric coupe is unique because it features a special shade of blue.
Smart celebrates a decade in business in the United States with the launch of the 10th Anniversary Edition on this year’s Fortwo Coupe Electric Drive.
This special model is available in Sapphire Blue Metallic. The exterior features 10th anniversary badges. A set of 16-inch Brabus Monoblock VII wheels in Matte Anthracite Grey is included with the vehicle. This little car looks handsome with its dark color and bright wheels.
The changes inside aren’t that significant. Brabus-supplied parts are used for the shift knob, and floor mats. The 10th Anniversary Edition models come standard with the Sport Package, which includes a leather-wrapped steering column and brushed stainless steel pedal covers.
The vehicle’s price will be $1,950 more with the 10th Anniversary Edition. It will debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, Detroit, and will go on sale shortly.
Fortwo Coupe Electric Drive has a 17.6 kilowatt hour battery which provides an EPA-estimated range for 58 miles (93 km). It takes 16.5 hours to fully charge the battery from a standard outlet. The electric motor, which produces 80 horsepower (60 watts) and can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 11.4 seconds. The electric Fortwo can travel at a maximum speed of 81 mph (130 km/h).
Smart is transitioning to becoming a fully-electric brand in the United States. Three quarters of Smart’s dealers will be forced to cease selling its products. Smart’s sales have already been affected by the switch, with deliveries falling 50.6 percent annually to 3,071 units in 2017, compared to 6,211 in 2016.
