Mazda’s spokesperson confirmed this week that production of the CX-7 SUV is over. Mazda’s decision to discontinue production of its CX-7 SUV is based on two factors. The first is the low sales figures. The second reason is the success of the CX-5, and the larger CX-9.
For the 2010 model year, Mazda introduced a four-cylinder, 16-valve 2.5-liter engine mated with a 5-speed auto gearbox. This was the last major update to the CX-7. The SUV was not a success despite the significant update. Mazda reported that the vehicle sold between 800 and 1000 units per year in the UK since its introduction in 2007.
Mazda wants to refresh its lineup with the SkyActiv technologies, which were introduced on the CX-5. These technologies allow Mazda to reduce production costs and increase profit margins per model while increasing efficiency.
