The debut VW of the IROC was a reminder that a production model was in the works. These photos of Death Valley show a prototype of this new coupe during hot weather testing.
These are some photos of the new VW Scirocco. The IROC Concept coupe was unveiled at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. The name IROC is derived from the middle letters in the name Sc Irocco. The bold and aggressive design of the IROC will be retained by the new Scirocco. The debut VW VW made it clear that a production model was in the works. These photos taken in Death Valley show a prototype of this new coupe during hot weather testing. The Scirocco will have the same platform and powertrain as the Volkswagen Eos convertible.
The Scirocco is a revival from the hatchback coupe-style sporty Volkswagen that was sold in Europe between 1975 and 1991, and the USA until 1988. The Scirocco was through two generations during that period, and 20 years later it still has a loyal following.
From 1992 to 1996, the Scirocco’s successor was the Corrado. Although the Corrado was a great car, its high price and inability to sell small sports coupes at a time when people were not interested caused VW executives to prematurely kill it. VW believes the time has come to bring back the Corrado after the success of the GTI, Golf R32 and GTI. VW previously stated that they did not intend to bring the Scirocco into the USA, but the car is currently being tested on American soil, so hopefully they will reconsider.
