It didn’t take too long.
What is the SUV world like? The Hyundai Tucson was unveiled at the New York Auto Show a year ago. Hyundai recently removed the cover of the hotter Tucson N Line to give its cool crossover some visual pizzazz. This was just a few months ago. Now we have the first spy photos of Tucson in heavy camouflage during hot-weather testing.
The trailer is a heavy-looking one and the suspension is squat at the rear. This prototype is likely to have a 2.5-liter Theta3 engine under its hood and an eight-speed auto transmission. It will need to be tested in depth. This mill should be available in turbocharged or naturally aspirated versions in North America, while a 1.6-liter diesel version will be available in Europe. A hybrid powertrain could be used from the Sonata to underpin the popular SUV.
The outside is what Hyundai Vice President for Design Sangyup Le said people would “freak out” over the next-gen Tucson’s looks. Although we assume that he meant it to be a positive thing with the prototype, which is heavily covered in camo wraps, tarps and false body panels makes it difficult to see what he was talking about, We are able to see the distinctive grille on Hyundai’s front, which is very Tucson-esque, in this first view. The front fascia has undergone some changes, most notably the daytime running lights and headlamps. Although we are unable to find anything freaky, it is possible to see the design cues of this test vehicle.
Hyundai won’t soon lift the covers on this significantly revised Tucson, which just debuted in 2019 model year. We aren’t talking about years prior to a reveal, but we have seen how quickly things change in the SUV market. According to our sources, this new SUV will be available in 2021.
