Peugeot Onyx Concept unveiled in Paris

Peugeot’s Onyx concept is one the most fascinating cars at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

It’s unlikely that the Peugeot Onyx Concept will ever be produced as a model. This supercar is a mid-engined supercar that features a rear-drive layout. It’s also sleek and minimalistic. It’s made from unprocessed raw material and the majority of its technology is derived from the Le Mans prototype. This makes it very interesting.

Copper sheet is used for the doors and wings, while carbon fiber is used for some panels. For the purpose of making a supercar lightweight, the roof and windows are made from lightweight acrylic. The Onyx weighs in at just 1100 kg (24525 lbs). It measures 4650mm in length, 2200mm width and 1130mm high.

Supercar’s V8 3.7-liter hybrid HDI FAP Engine generates 600 horsepower (447 kW) and is paired with a 6-speed sequential transmission gearbox. The Onyx has a kinetic-energy recovery system, which can channel the braking energy to lithium-ion battery and then automatically release this energy upon acceleration. This gives it an additional 80 bhp (60kW).
