The 911 special edition should be available by the end the year.

Porsche is still developing its all-new 911. A debut is scheduled for late 2019. The German marque plans one last hurrah for its current generation. The Speedster will join the 911 lineup shortly, following special series models such as the R and Turbo S Exclusive models.

It will have a unique roof mechanism. New spy photos reveal the Speedster prototype with camouflage covering the rear portion. This will be cut and angled differently to give it a more attractive profile. This will be the same Porsche approach that was used on all previous Speedsters models including the one from 2011.

Additional design cues include new fenders, likely taken from the Carrera 4, new wheels and undoubtedly some added Speedster emblems throughout the cabin as well as on the exterior. This version will be limited, just like the previous one. Only 356 Speedsters were made in 2011, so production numbers for this model should be similar.

Speed freaks will be disappointed to learn that the GTS upon which it is based won’t see any improvement in power. It will continue to use the same 3.0-liter biturbo-flat-six, which produces 450 horsepower (331 Kilowatts) as well as 405 pound-feet (505 Newton-meters) torque. This should allow it to run a similar 0-62 time (100 kmh), and top speed of around 191 mph (308 kmh).

The Porsche Speedster will be displayed at the L.A. Auto Show before the end. The Auto Show would be a great place to make the debut. Due to its limited production and unique visual cues, the Speedster will be considerably more expensive than the standard GTS car.
