Qatar could be soon ready to join formula one.

Jean Todt, president of FIA, has just visited the Arab emirate. It hosts MotoGP races at Losail.

Losail is undergoing modifications with the goal of hosting formula one.

According to the Gulf Times, “Surely formula one” is part of Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation president Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah said.

“Once everything has been put in place, the safety commissioner will evaluate the track and then license it for official formula one testing. He added that after this, we will be ready for the formula one circuit.”

Charlie Whiting, the FIA’s chief executive officer, is expected to arrive in Qatar within days of Sunday’s season-opening Bahrain grand prix.

“We will do whatever Whiting suggests. The daily Peninsula newspaper quotes al-Attiyah as saying that they will meet all F1 requirements before bidding for a race.

Todt said: “It’s easy for Qatar to host an F1 Race. This is a commercial issue that must be resolved by the formula one body (FOM), and local organisers.

“We already have two formula-one races (Bahrain & Abu Dhabi) in Middle East. He said that Qatar would be a great addition to the race.
