BMX racer-turned-rally-driver Dave Mirra has won his first race at the wheel of a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Subaru Rally Team USA gives him additional support for his win.
Dave Mirra, a BMX and X-Games BMX athlete, won more than a race when he took first at the 2009 Team O’Neil Rally held in New Hampshire last Wednesday. Subaru Rally Team USA also supported him. Mirra will receive more support from the organization than he was previously receiving.
Mirra now has Subaru Rally Team USA backing him and will be able participate in all nine rounds at the Rally America National Championship. Mirra will also be driving his rally car at X-Games 15, later in the year. He will drive a 2008 Impreza WRX STI Super Production class car during the season.
Mirra won the race behind the wheel of a Vermont SportsCar-prepared 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI sponsored by BFGoodrich and Monster Energy. Mirra drove the car to the fastest times in seven of eight event stages and won the overall event by 50 seconds. The same car was used in multiple races last year, earning him the 2008 Rally America Rookie-of-the Year title.
Mirra stated, “I’m excited to get my first victory, the roads here were a lot fun here.” “Running in snowy conditions was a great preparation for the Sno*Drift Rally next Thursday, so I will be a lot more confident from the start.” The Sno*Drift Rally will be the first race in the Rally America Championship series.
Mirra is celebrating his first win in a rally season that lasted just one year. Mirra is more popular as a BMX rider. He has won one medal in every X-Games competition since its creation. He has 23 medals from X-Games.
