What could go wrong?
It’s obvious that Hoonigan created the YouTube drag-race phenomenon, but every version is just as exciting. The Fast Lane Truck has recently launched a series in which they pit the Ram TX against serious competition. The TRX has so far outperformed vehicles such as the previous-gen Ford Raptor pickup, and even a GT500 Mustang. However, the latest video may change that.
The competition may look just like any other International Harvester pickup. This example, however, is the best truck racing example.
It may look similar to any 54′ International from the outside but, like any good sleeper, all the goodies are underneath the skin. The body is mounted on a 2000 Chevy Chevy Silverado chassis, which apparently mated to the original truck quite well. The Chevy engine is unchanged, but it has been modified to include a turbocharger and Z06 cam as well as new rod bolts.
The first race proved that the TRX is determined to maintain its undefeated record. Even after a slow start, the International underdog stayed within one car of the Ram. The International was able to hook up better at the start but still finished behind the rest of the field. Its next run proved to have a lot more predictability.
It looks like they are running less than a quarter mile. We’d bet that a driver mod and a longer drag strip could result in a completely different outcome. It’s evident that these trucks are loads of fun to drive.
