Renault has celebrated 40 years of Formula 1 involvement. Now it wants to bring some of that F1 magic to its five-door hatchback. The limited-run special edition model will be known as the Clio R.S., and the name of the limited-run special edition is inspired by the nomenclature in the most prestigious motorsport category. Renault Sport’s upcoming R.S. 18 moniker is a nod to the 18″ moniker. 18 F1 car.

This is merely a visual package to the Clio RS. This special version is the 220 EDC Trophy model and comes standard with an Akrapovic exhaust system (optional for the regular model). It maximizes the sound quality of the turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline motor. The R.S. has 220 horsepower and 280 Newton meters (206 pound feet) torque. 18 mirrors the technical specifications for the stock hot hatch.

The “R.S.” badges are what really set it apart from the Clio RS. The front doors have 18″ badges, and the double-diamond motif on the roof. Renault also added grey decals and a model-exclusive black theme to the front bumper. This gives the supermini an intimidating look. Renault Sport’s Sirius Yellow paint is used on the F1-styled front blade. This striking hue can also be seen on the sides, which contrast the predominant Deep Black.

The new Clio R.S. cabin is revealed as you enter. The new Clio R.S. 18 features numbered door sills that denote its limited availability. It also has faux carbon fiber surrounds for the air vent surrounds. The Renault Sport-branded carpet mats are also included, along with a mixture of Alcantara leather and leather for the sporty steering wheels.

This special edition is likely to be a last chance for the current-generation Clio, given that Renault will unveil the new version at the Paris Motor Show in October. This R.S. version is certainly a nice one. While 18 is a nice version, let’s not forget what could have been. The Clio R.S. was unveiled in 2005. The Clio R.S. 16 concept featured a large body and a powerful 275-hp 2.0 liter engine. It was a derivative of the Megane RS. It was never produced.
