According to Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, F1 teams have committed to banning wheel fairings during the 2010 season. We reported earlier this summer that these devices, which were first introduced last year, are likely to be banned in 2010. They make it harder for cars to follow them.
In July, Williams’ technical chief Sam Michael stated that studies had shown that covers can have an “adverse effect” on the next car. The Australian however warned that banning covers is not a panacea. Michael said, “It is the kind of thing where you need three or four small things like this and that will make a big difference.”
