27500 square feet more space
Rodin Cars may not be a household name in automotive, but it does produce a pair of single-seater racecars. The FZED and FZERO are both single-seater open wheel race cars. The FZERO is more restricted in its capabilities, while the FZED is designed to be a standard car for single-seaters. Rodin started to plan the construction of a 2,500-square meter facility on the South Island of New Zealand. The new building will be home to the engine-building department as well as a number 3D printers and a heated paint booth. The new building will not only house important manufacturing operations but also provide space for designers and the carbon fiber business side. Rodin Cars CEO David Dicker said, “You are only as good or worse than your worst supplier.” “So, we do everything we can to make our cars as good as possible from design to production.” The new building plans allow for 500 square metres of design offices, despite all the space required for complex machinery. The extra space will also give employees a great vantage point from which to view nearby Mt. Lyford is visible through huge 3.2-meter by 4.0-meter (10.5 ft. x 13 ft.) windows.
The performance boutique has already 1,400 acres of land to use, outside of the new building. The campus has two large facilities that can house operations. It also includes two configurable test circuits that are extremely useful for building high-performance machines. Construction costs are estimated at $6 million. However, the final cost will rise to closer to $10 million once all equipment is installed. Rodin Cars boasts one of the most extensive and diverse collections of machinery and 3D printing equipment in the southern hemisphere. We’ll be hearing more about them in the near future.
