Teased facelift for 2016 VW Amarok

Teased facelift for 2016 VW Amarok

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles released three digital sketches to show off the new Amarok facelift.

The Amarok is a premium pickup. It has been around more than six years. So naturally, VW is updating it inside and out. Our spy photos show this. The body will soon get a slightly revised front and rear bumpers as well as new graphics for the taillights and headlights. We expect to see new alloy wheels designs and the front grille will be redesigned. The attached teaser sketches show the double-cab version in orange, which is expected to arrive with the facelift.

The interior has also been updated. The Amarok looks more car-like thanks to the reconfigured dashboard. As you can see, the touchscreen is now higher than it was before. The air vents, which have changed from a circular shape to an angular one, are flanked by a chrome trim. To enhance the experience of being in a regular car, the buttons and knobs have been rearranged on the center stack.

VW doesn’t know if there have been any modifications to the engine, but we expect to see the 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine connected to either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight speed automatic. It is currently available in a 140-hp single-turbo version (340 newton metres) and a 180-hp biturbo version (295 lbft / 420Nm with the manual). You can hook up the engine and gearboxes to an all-wheel-drive 4MOTION system.

A complete reveal of the facelifted Amarok will take place within the next few weeks, before it goes on sale in second half of this year.
