The teaser shows that the Lotus sounds fantastic and has a minimalist interior.
Lotus teases a new model, which will debut on May 5. Although the video is only 13 seconds in length, it never gives us any real glimpse at the vehicle. Two rows of letters can be seen at the end. The letters in the upper left corner appear to spell Emira. However, it is difficult to distinguish which word is being used.
The clip begins with a view of a cloudy sky. The red-and-white curbing runs around the track’s perimeter. We then see a driver with gloves holding the steering wheel. This person also wears a carbon-fiber helmet. The interior appears to be stripped, although things are blurry.
In the video, you can also see how the engine revs. The engine makes a loud, raspy sound that gives the car an aggressive tone.
Lotus already has the Emira GT4 racing car. This teaser suggests that the vehicle might be a special track-only edition of the sports coupe.
The Emira will replace the Elise and Exige in the Lotus lineup. This model is equipped with a Toyota-sourced, 3.5-liter supercharged V6 producing 400 horsepower (296kW). The mill can produce 310 lb-ft (420 Newton-meters) using a six-speed manual or 317 lbft (430 Nm), with the six speed automatic.
The car can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds for the manual and 4.2 seconds for the automatic. The maximum speed of the Emira is 180 mph (290 km/h), regardless of transmission.
Another engine option for is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder from Mercedes-AMG. It produces 360 hp (268kW) and 309lb-ft (342 Nm) in this application. The engine can be connected to an eight speed dual-clutch transmission. This version doesn’t yet have acceleration specs.
In fall 2022, the Emira First Edition will be available in the United States. The four-cylinder model is priced at $85,900, while the V6 version costs $93,000. Lotus claims that the regular versions will arrive in spring 2023 at $74,900.
