2021 BMW 4 Series Convertible – Caught with the Top Down
The test driver took advantage of the sunny day.
Our spy team spotted the prototype of the new 4 Series Convertible a little more than a week ago. Now they have spotted another vehicle in the hands a BMW test driver, while also enjoying some droptop motoring. The temperatures outside were below freezing, 15°C (or +5°F) to be precise. However, the driver didn’t hesitate to put the fabric roof down to enjoy the winter sun.
The driver kept all four windows open and used the wind deflector to protect him from the cold winds. Interestingly, BMW Installing what appears to be a parcel shelf on cars with a tailgate, blocked the rear compartment’s view. The folded soft roof replaced the bulky and heavy metal roof on the 4 Series Convertible. It was hidden between the trunk, rear seats and the trunk.
A fabric roof will allow for more cargo space as the folded top takes up less space. This could have a positive effect on rear legroom which is often not as good in four-seater conversions. The lighter soft top will also allow for a healthier diet.
BMW continues to use a lot of camouflage for its 4 Series prototypes even though we have a good idea of what these new two-door 3 Series models will look like. To preview the 4 Series, the Bavarians presented the Concept 4 last year with its controversial grille. It was a concept design, but the overall design is likely to be the same as what we will see later in the year.
The new 4 Series Convertible codenamed G23 will reportedly go on sale in November. The coupe’s debut is when the official unveiling will take place, so expect the wraps to be revealed sometime in the fall.
