Imagine the impossible.
The Peugeot RCZ was more than a coupe-ified 308 hatchback. We loved it. It was distinctively designed with a double-bubble roof, a la Zagato. Later it was spawned an R performance with 270 horsepower. Despite being a unique appearance on the coupe scene, sales of the RCZ were not good. The company with the lion badge decided to scrap the car.
Despite a June 2014 disclosure about plans to create a second generation, Peugeot decided to change its mind and in April 2015 stated that the RCZ’s niche status meant it was more financially sensible to concentrate on the core models. According to PSA, the coupe will not receive a direct successor.
In the virtual world, everything is possible. This is why Aksyonov Nikita, Saint Petersburg, Russia, has begun to envision a new RCZ. It borrows styling elements from the old model, including the bulging roof, and blends them into the most recent design traits used by Peugeot for its latest products.
The R specification is a hot example of the imaginary RCZ. It features a sporty body with a prominent front splitter, prominent rear spoiler lip and dual exhaust tips. Although the car will not be in production, Peugeot suggests that the 308 R will replace it in the lineup. It will likely have many similarities with the 308 R hybrid, which is a 500-horsepower concept with an all-wheel-drive system.
Peugeot is working on a really interesting model, which we can take some comfort in. The all new 508 will be available next year in coupe styling.
