Autocar reports that VW will produce an R version for the Polo in 2012. The engine will be a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol/gasoline motor that produces around 210 horsepower (156 kW). It will not have an all-wheel drive, unlike the Golf R. This is because the Polo’s PQ25 platform doesn’t allow it.
The upcoming Polo GTI was unveiled by VW at the Geneva auto fair in March. It features a twin-charged 1.4 liter TSI engine producing 180 PS (132 kW), and 249 Nm (284 lb-ft) respectively. This engine is paired with VW Group’s 7 speed DSG transmission.
The Polo GTI will be available in Europe this summer with prices starting at approximately PS18,000/EUR20,000
