The company announces the EnVeloP system, which is a world first. This announcement comes one year after Volvo Cars introduced a world-first with its Pedestrian Autobag Technology on the all new Volvo V40.
Volvo is the global leader in automobile safety. The company today unveils the External Vehicle Protection (EnVeloP), a world-first system. This announcement comes one year following the world premiere of Volvo Cars’ Pedestrian Airbag Technology in the all-new Volvo V40.
External Vehicle Protection is a small container that is built into the roof of your car. It contains a vacuum-pulled balloon made of similar material as existing airbags. The balloon expands around the car in a matter of seconds, regardless of whether it’s with another vehicle, roadside objects, or surface water. The External Vehicle Protection system completely envelopes the car to reduce personal injury and damage.
Volvo Cars is a leader in automobile safety research and innovation. This can be seen in many world-firsts and breakthroughs. Volvo Cars has taken this legacy to the next level with this innovative External Vehicle Protection solution.
“For years we have been trying to improve safety in our cars,” states Thomas Broberg (Senior Technical Adviser Safety Volvo Cars Safety Centre).
“This new safety feature represents Volvo’s Designed Around You brand philosophy. We took a literal approach to Design Around You. Instead of looking for new areas in the car that could be fitted with more airbags-like safety systems we decided to cover the entire car with an airbag-like solution.
Volvo Cars is currently testing the External Vehicle Protection system, but is looking into whether it can be installed in future Volvo cars.
