Only 250 of the most prestigious clients can order a Ferrari unique Ferrari.

People who find the standard Ferraris boring and don’t have the budget to buy them can always use the Portfolio Coachbuilding Programme. This program creates truly unique prancing horses. This is Ferrari’s fancy term for its special division that creates limited-edition cars using existing products, but with completely new bodywork.

Examples of recent examples include the P80/C shown here, or the Monza SP1 speedters as part of the new Icona series. You want your Ferrari, the only one that isn’t owned by any other wealthy person? Enrico Galliera (the company’s marketing and commercial boss) told Autocar that there is a five-year wait list. You can’t just call the Maranello headquarters and ask for a single car. Ferrari carefully selects applicants.

Galliera stated that only 250 people can commission a vehicle. These high-end clients are Ferrari’s most prestigious customers. They have spent a lot of money on Ferrari’s products. Portfolio Coachbuilding Programme is so busy, that no new orders will be completed until 2024.

Apart from high demand, there is another reason for the long wait list. The special projects division produces only two to three cars per year. This is partly due to the complex production process. However, Ferrari also wants these cars to be extremely limited in order to maintain exclusivity.

A “regula” one-off can take anywhere from 18 to 24 month to complete. But in the case Ferrari’s 488 GT3-based P80/C it took nearly three years for the job to be completed. Galliera stated that the vehicle did not have to be road-legal and said so to Autocar.

What is Ferrari’s second half of 2019 like? The F8 Tributo regular production cars and the SF90 Stradale SF90 Stradale are now in the works. In the coming months, a hybrid V6 model will be introduced. Two additional vehicles will also be revealed before the year ends. The hybrid Purosangue SUV is set to debut early in the next decade.
