The all-electric VW lineup is growing.
The introduction of the ID continues Volkswagen’s assault on new EVs. It will be available in two versions: standard and GTX, with three trims and three options for powertrain. The ID. The ID.5’s familiar shape (if you squint enough) is due to its sharing a lot with the HTML4. The ID.5 has a similar wheelbase and length to the ID.4, but the ID.5 is fitted with a coupe-like roof that separates it from the more traditional ID.4.
The ID.5 is built on the company’s MEB architecture but it’s not a carbon copy of the ID.4 underneath the sheet metal. The ID.5 has one battery, a 77-kilowatt hour pack. This is different from the ID.4. You can pair it with one of three output electric motors depending on which trim you choose – ID.5 PRO, ID.5 Performance or ID.5 GTX.
Both the Pro and Pro Performance have rear-mounted electric engines. The ID.5 Pro delivers 171 horsepower (128kilowatts) with a 10.4 second 0-62 miles per hour (100 km/h) time. The Pro Performance produces 201 horsepower (150 kW) and can reach 62 mph in 8.4 seconds. Both models have a top speed of 99 mph (160 kph). The ID.5 GTX is equipped with a dual-motor, all wheel-drive configuration. It produces 295 horsepower (220 kW) and rockets the EV crossover up to 62 mph in just 6.3 seconds. It also has a top speed at 111 mph (180 km/h).
VW claims that the Pro Performance will offer a range of up to 323 miles (520 km) on Europe’s generous WLTP testing cycle. The GTX’s range is slightly lower at 298 mi (480 km). The ID.5’s range is extended by a 0.26 drag coefficient. This is.02 less than the ID.4. The ID. The ID.5’s sloped roofline can eat into the car’s cargo space. It has 19.38 cubic feet (549 Liters) with rear seats up, and 55.12 cubic foot (1,561 Liters) without them. These figures are lower than the ID.4’s 30.3 (848) or 64.2 cubic feet (1.817 liters).
The ID.5 inside looks identical to the ID.4, featuring the same infotainment screen and sparse layout as the ID.4. GTX models have the trim branding perforated onto the seats for added style. Although VW has not yet provided pricing information, it should be available closer the model’s release date. It is expected to arrive in European markets by the end of next year.
