20-Year-Old BMW M5 Relies On The Complete Speedometer In Autobahn Night Run

This 123,000-mile M5 E39 hits 186 mph (300 km/h), on a dark highway.

Ah, the Autobahn. You can speed on public roads without losing your license – unless you’re speeding along one of the sections of Germany’s magnificent highway. Sreten, who is the creator of YouTube channel “M539 Restorations,” took his BMW M5 from the E39 to do a top speed test.

Sreten set out on Sunday night at 10 pm to push the speedometer to 300 km/h (186 MPH) without violating any laws. The high-performance sedan pulls strong despite being built nearly two decades ago. It has covered close to 200,000 km (124,000 miles) in dashcam footage.

Ending the night on the Autobahn with a speedy run is a great way to pay tribute to the Queen. Rest in peace you legend.” Sreten continues to state that his V8-powered sedan is stable and can travel at 240 km/h (1149 mph). It feels like it is traveling 60 km/h (36.7 mph), which is quite understandable considering it has already reached the magic 300 km/h mark.

It is worth noting that the YouTuber owns a whole fleet of BMWs including a 1989 7 Series and a 1991 8 Series with V12s. He’s owned over 25 BMW models in Bavaria and has spent countless hours restoring and buying them. Although he isn’t a professional mechanic, he works in IT and it is safe to say that he knows how to fix BMWs.

The 2001 E39 M5 was given an annual service in the video earlier. If you have the time, you will see that the sports sedan is in excellent condition.
