Toyota was also able to see that the Hilux is still a good choice. Modifications for the new model were made in a subtle way.
Since its introduction in Europe in 2005 the Toyota Hilux has experienced rapid growth. Last year, it had sold 39000 units. This brought its market share to 22%. Toyota aims to cement their position at the top with new 2009 Hilux sales targets of 47,000 units.
Toyota was impressed by the rapid growth of the Hilux and decided to make minor modifications to the model. Redesigned front fascia with a wider and more prominent grille and bumper that gives the impression of low centre of gravity. Toyota will offer two new exterior colors, Island Blue and Graphite Gray, for the Hilux. To complete the options, Toyota will also be offering new 15-inch and 17-inch wheels for the Double Cab Invincible and 3.0 D-4D Double Cab HL3 models.
Interior gets a new steering wheel with a four-spoke design and integrated controls for the sound system. The controls for lights and wipers have also been redesigned to improve their ergonomic design. The new air conditioner system features a push button control, digital display, and a filter that removes pollen and dust.
The 3.0 D-4D engine has an increased torque of 17Nm – 360Nm. This is due to a five-speed automatic transmission. It offers smoother performance as well as better efficiency than the old four-speed version. The CO2 combined figure is now 236g/km, while fuel consumption has improved from 30.1 mpg to 31.7 mpg.
