Ford has released output specifications for the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine that powers the 2014 Fusion following an announcement in April.
The EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, 1.5-liter in displacement, has an aluminum block head and an aluminum block. It also features twin independent variable camshaft timing. It produces 178 horsepower (133 kW), at 6,000 RPM, and 177 lbft (240 Nm), of torque between 1,500 to 4,500 Rpm. At the moment, fuel economy figures are not available.
The new engine will be produced at Ford’s Craiova plant, Romania. It matches the 178 horsepower output of the EcoBoost mill. The larger engine produces 184 lb-ft peak torque (249 Nm), but it runs at 2,500 rpm. The new 1.5-liter EcoBoost will replace 1.6-liter EcoBoost found in the 2014 Fusion with a six speed automatic gearbox. You can still get the 1.6-liter EcoBoost if you choose to use the six-speed manual transmission.
The 2014 Ford Fusion is also available with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 175 bhp (135 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 170lb-ft (220 Nm) at 4,500. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost, a 4-cylinder engine with 240 bhp (179kW) at 5,500rpm and 270lb-ft (366 Nm) at 3,500rpm, is also available. Ford offers a six-speed automatic with the 2.5-liter EcoBoost and a SelectShift auto with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost.
