2019 Mercedes G-Class AMG Line Shows Its Sportsy Side

It’s a taster of what is to come with the new G63.

It’s likely that you are as obsessed with the new Mercedes G Class. The regular model was seen in the spotlight at the Detroit Auto Show 2018, as well as official photos showing the stealthy G equipped with the optional Night Package. The boxy off-roader is now back in the AMG Line specification, with a sportier exterior.

The AMG-ified G gives us a glimpse into the full-blown G63. It features slightly updated front and back fascias, and rides on one the two alloy wheels options of 20 inches bearing Affalterbach’s signature. You will also notice the beefier wheel arches at the rear and front axles. There are multiple exterior accents made of brushed aluminum and the “Mercedes-Benz” lettering on front brake calipers.

The sports exhaust system rounds out the exterior changes. It makes the most of the sound coming from the biturbo-4.0-liter V8 within the G500, which produces 422 horsepower (310 Kilowatts) as well as 610 Newton-meters (475 lb-ft) of torque.

2019 Mercedes G-Class AMG Line Shows Its Sportsy Side

The 2019 G-Class AMG Line will welcome you with a flat-bottomed steering column clad with Nappa leather and equipped with a three-spoke design. Mercedes will add AMG-branded floormats and red accents to the leather upholstery, as well as seatbelts.

The G63 is coming soon if you are more interested in the upgrades under the hood. Ola Kallenius, Mercedes R&D boss, has confirmed that the G63 will be available sooner than expected. Mercedes’ performance division has developed the suspension, axles, shaft, drivetrain and knuckles for the G Class.

As the V12 will only be available in Maybach models, it seems that the future of G65 is uncertain. However, it is possible that a G-Class could be built with a powerful biturbo 6.0-liter V12 engine. This is despite the fact that the G65 was able to produce a bizarre G650 Landaulet which was branded as a Mercedes Maybach model.
