2019 Toyota Yaris Liftback Axed; 2020 Yaris Announcement Coming

At the New York Auto Show, Toyota will reveal details about the 2020 Yaris line-up.

The 2019 model year saw a name change from Yaris iA into Yaris Sedan. Toyota now has an announcement about the five-door hatchback. The Yaris Liftback has been axed in 2019MY. This announcement is not surprising after Jim Lentz, Toyota North America CEO revealed recently that the Yaris has an uncertain future in the United States.

Toyota is currently reviewing its entire lineup in order to determine which cars will be retiring and which ones will remain. Toyota’s decision not to bring the supercharged Yaris to North America illustrates the low demand. Yaris GRMN Hot hatch version in the USA, limited to 600 copies in Europe, 200 in Japan. The same goes for the Yaris GR Sport The GRMN is also available in a soft variant, the GRMN Lite, which has a 1.8-liter engine that produces 209 horsepower.

The Yaris Liftback will not be available in the 2019 model year. However, a Toyota spokesperson said CarsDirect that the company will announce the 2020 Yaris lineup during the New York Auto Show. Although the event will begin April 17th with the first press conference, the 2020 Yaris may make its debut online a few more days before.

The future of the Yaris will remain to be seen in the U.S., where Toyota will soon launch a Land Cruiser Heritage Edition and an all-wheel-drive Prius. Also, the long-awaited Supra will be available. In an effort to keep the momentum going, Toyota will launch 19 new or upgraded vehicles in America between now and 2022.
