Electrification over diversification
Volvo has completed the final stages of its complete redesign. The Swedish company currently has a variety of SUVs including the XC90 and XC60 and XC40. There are also two station wagons and a large sedan on sale. They are also working on the S60, a smaller sedan. The V40 will be next in line and will mark the end to the current generation of Volvo cars.
The automaker will not launch new niche models or special versions. Instead, Autocar has released a report that claims the automaker will concentrate on electrification. Volvo will have at least 25% electric models by 2025. It won’t introduce any new models to the Volvo family of vehicles before 2020, according to a report from em>Autocar.
It would be nice to own a convertible or coupe. It’s the best, but it’s not the only option. Lex Kerssemakers is Volvo’s Europe Middle East and Africa director. With our current portfolio, we cover 98 percent. We take electrification seriously, and are expanding rapidly our electrified powertrains.
This summer will be the debut of the all-new S60. It will share its foundations with the V60 wagon. This means that two plug-in hybrid powertrains are available: T6 Twin Engine AWD (340 horsepower, 253 kilowatts) or T8 Twin Engine AWD (390 hp, 290 kW) and 672 pound-feet (639 Newton meters) of torque.
Volvo will launch a successor to the V40 next year. It will be built on the CMA platform. Although it will not be significantly different from today’s model it is expected to be electrified and a “strong evolution” of the current V40.
