The last naturally aspirated supercar is still in existence is loved by many, but it is expensive to buy. Recent sales figures in the United States show that demand for the Audi R8 is declining by 38 percent, to just 574 units as of 2019.
The silver lining is a hidden deal that CarsDirect discovered in an incentive bulletin for dealers. It takes $7,500 off the V10’s high starting price in the best-case scenario. The incentive is provided by Audi dealers but they are not required to pass it on to consumers who are either leasing or buying the vehicle. The ideal price reduction would bring the R8 Coupe’s MSRP down to $165,000. This is not affordable but it’s better that nothing.
This is the first discount Audi has offered for the facelifted R8 supercar, since it was released in the U.S. last Spring. The machine with the Four Rings can be as high as $214,995 in the limited-run Decade special edition. The R8 V10 Performance Spyder is just $208,100.
Cars direct found a dealer in Atlanta, Georgia that sells a 2020 R8 Spyder at $178,492 . This is $17,653 lower than the MSRP. Other dealers often offer discounts between $8,000 to $10,000 if you know where. Audi has now made it easier to find a rear-wheel-drive R8 in Europe. However, it is not clear if the supercar with tailgating capabilities will be available in the United States.
Although these price cuts won’t be enough to boost sales of the R8, it doesn’t mean that Audi’s flagship performance model will cease to exist. The company has hinted that there will be an third-generation with an electrified engine to comply with emissions regulations, despite rumors predicting its demise.
Although it is not certain if the 5.2-liter V10 will be able to survive, Audi Sport Managing Director Oliver Hoffman stated that he is doing all he can to preserve the sweet-sounding FSI . The Huracan uses a similar configuration of the ten cylinder mill. It will be interesting to see how Lamborghini replaces the supercar.
