There is a clear winner and it may not be the one that you expect.
The Honda Accord and Acura TLX cars are not what you would see at a drag race. Both are nice cars for their own purposes, but straight-line acceleration should not be a consideration for buyers. You can see the differences on the track in this video.
The 2020 model year Accord features the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. It produces 252 horsepower (188 Kilowatts) as well as 273 pound-feet (397 Newton-meters). The front wheels are provided with power via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The TLX is also a 2020 model-year vehicle. This makes it the post-refresh example for the first-generation sedan. The 3.5-liter V6 produces 290 horsepower (216 kW) as well as 267 lbft (362Nm) of power. A nine-speed automatic transmits the engine’s output to the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The A-Spec trim on this TLX includes an updated suspension, 19-inch wheels, LED lights, and redesigned styling pieces.r56
The first race is simply a run in Sport mode. The sedans initially run next to one another, but the Accord starts to pull away. The Honda seems to have beaten the Acura by at most one car length.
You can turn off traction control the second time. Acura’s all-wheel drive should give it more advantage. Although the TLX is more competitive in the end, the Accord still wins the race.
From a 31-mile-per-hour (50-kilometer-per-hour) roll, the Accord just drives away. The TLX is unable to keep up.
The race continues in the same manner, but the cars are still in second gear when drivers take the throttle. The Acura doesn’t win this race. But, the Honda still wins.
This is a strong result for the turbocharged Accord. These are both used vehicles so it is possible that the TLX tires could be the reason for the lack of acceleration.
