2020 Volvo 240 rendering shows it’s still hip to be square

We would be happy to see more boxy designs.

Volvo is a well-known brand for making attractive sedans. The sketch monkey wanted to see how the popular three-box design from years ago would look in 2020. The Volvo 240 was a favorite car of his growing up and teenage years.

This Photoshop redesign of one of the most popular Volvo nameplates is still as bold as ever. The artist used the S60 model as inspiration, while keeping the brick-like shape from the original 240. It is seated on the S90 alloy wheels and features the sharp C-shaped taillights that were adapted to the car’s large rear.

The Sketch Monkey retained the simple lines of the original model 240, but the trunk lid is something you won’t see on any new car. It still has that tank-like feel, and we would be interested to see how modernized the front fascia is for the modern age. It is almost impossible to revive a design from the first half of 1970s due to current safety regulations and pedestrian regulations.

This artist’s attempt at restoring a Volvo classic is a continuation of a similar design project he did less then a month ago for the C30 three door hatchback. He seems to have a soft spot in his heart for the Swedish brand. This is not surprising given that he was raised just outside of Stockholm and surrounded by 240s. He also did the 850 R at beginning of year, keeping its hearse-like profile.

While many will tell you to leave it to the pros, there is nothing wrong with checking out how an artist envisions a classic design that has been adapted to Volvo’s current design language.
