Same gearbox, different engines.
Acura now has a performance sedan with the TLX Type S. We have to admit that it is a very powerful and likeable car. It’s powered by a 3.0-liter twin turbo gas engine. This makes it more powerful than its predecessor and, logically speaking, is significantly faster than models with 2.0 engines. But is it really that much faster?
Sam CarLegion is YouTube and has all the answers. The team assembled an Acura TLX Type S as well as a Honda Accord with a turbo-powered 2.0-liter engine. The channel’s crew raced the cars in different modes and at different speeds. Let’s look at some of the results.
It is not surprising that Acura wins when both cars are in the automatic transmissions and sport mode. The second run is with both cars in deactivated traction control. The outcome is identical. Interestingly, the third run is not with standing start. The gap between the cars is smaller.
These results should not be surprising. The TLX Type S’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo unit produces 355 horsepower and 354 pound feet of torque. The Accord uses a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-4 engine that produces 252 hp, and 273 lbft of torque. The Acura uses a 10-speed automatic transmission while the Honda uses a FWD layout.
It’s undoubtedly the fastest car, but it also looks better, especially with the aftermarket spoiler. It’s not surprising that the TLX type S is more expensive than the Accord 2.0T at $52,300.
