BMW Motorrad’s 1000 RR joins the Safety Bike category.
Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG revealed their Safety cars for the 2021 Formula 1 season just a few days ago. BMW will do the same for the MotoGP championship. Since 1999, the Bavarians have been the official supplier of safety cars through their performance M Division. They have used many models including the Z8 and Z4 M Coupe.
M has created three new Safety Cars for 2021 based on the latest M models: M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe and the all-conquering M5CS. BMW’s performance division has changed things up by removing the predominantly white liveries from the past in order to showcase some of the special colors for the M5 CS.
The M3 Competition Sedan comes in Frozen Grey Dark Metallic, while the M4 Competition Coupe is in vibrant Sao Paulo Yellow. The M5 CS, which is the most powerful, has a fancy Frozen Deep Green Metallic paint. These three vehicles will be joined in MotoGP by additional safety cars such as the M8 Competition Coupe or M8 Competition Gran Coupe, and an X5 Medical Car.
These four-wheeled machines have some very polarizing front grilles. There’s also a bicycle. BMW Motorrad’s 1000 RR is the first M-branded motorcycle. It features a familiar white paint and traditional M colors. This livery will be used on the BMW M 1000RR, which will compete in the Superbike World Championship.
The 2021 MotoGP season’s first race will be held in Losail on March 28th for the Grand Prix of Qatar. However, the entire fleet of safety vehicles will make their debut at the Grande Premio de Portugal in Portimao on April 18.
BMW states that the standard M cars are designed to provide “sporty performance and perfect driving behaviour up to the limits”. They were therefore only modified to become MotoGP cars. These include quick-release latches on the hood, flashing low-mounted headlights, a roof light bar and emergency power shutoffs for safe transport overseas.
The M4 Competition Coupe also lost its rear seats, but gained a rollbar and four-point harness as well as a modified exhaust. This exhaust has been added to the M3 Competition Sedan. However, it is not the M Performance exhaust (pictured above). with stacked Lexus F exhausts that the company offers at an additional price for road cars.
The M3 touring would be the MotoGP Safety Car next year. Although it has not been confirmed, BMW is likely to introduce the go-faster wagon by the end of next year or early in 2022.
