The new G80 BMW M4 Competition could be the ideal platform for drift cars. We don’t think so. These two BMW M4 Competitions, which were purpose-built for BMW M4 Competitions, might convince you otherwise. Redbull Driftbrothers will be competing in the Drift Masters European Championship using their new BMW M4 Competition-based drift car. BMW M created a video to show the BMW M4’s ability to go motorsport-ready.
The G80 BMW M4 Competition stock platform is ideal for building a drift car. The BMW M4 is an extremely stable platform due to its powerful engine, rear wheel-drive layout and long-wheelbase. BMW M4 road cars come with an integrated drift rating system in their infotainment, allowing customers to set high scores on the track.
The BMW M4 Competition’s stock version is powered by a twin turbo 3.0-liter straight-6 engine with 503 horsepower (375 Kilowatts), and 479 lb/ft (650 Newton meters) of torque. This powerful engine is coupled to an 8-speed ZF torque convertor automatic transmission. It can withstand the most severe abuse.
What does it take to build a G80M4 drift car? First, the interior must be finished. Contrasting stitching and leather add unnecessary weight. The power of the stock S58 engine was increased to 1,050 horsepower (782 Kilowatts), which will improve traction in drift competitions.
BMW M even helped to build aero components for M4 drift cars. These include modified front aero components that improve cooling. The European Drift Masters season has just begun for Elias Hountondj, Johannes Hountondji and we can’t wait to see their M4 compete in the competition.
