2021 Cupra Ateca Gets Covered With A Discreet Facelift and Chassis Tweaks

Subtle styling and a little more tech.

Sociedad Espanola de Automoviles de Turismo revealed the Ateca facelift exactly a week ago. Now, the brand’s performance division has done the same thing for the redesigned version. The 2021 Cupra Ateca features the same styling updates as its SEAT-badged sibling. The front is where the full-LED headlights have been updated to be more in line with the latest Leon and Tarraco.

SEAT Cupra also has a new bumper. It has a more busy design and incorporates a set of fog lights. The corporate grille appears to have been derived from the Cupra Formentor hybrid crossover coupe.

The rear end is a mirror image of the Cupra Ateca’s, with the full-LED taillights and sequential turn signals. There’s very little to be said about it. You can tell this is not the ordinary SEAT version by the quad exhausts and many copper accents. Customers can choose from six exterior colors and six 19-inch alloy wheel designs. Brembo copper performance brakes are available at an additional charge.

Once inside, you will find a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster that complements the 9.2-inch touchscreen. Everything you need to connect is covered, from USB-C ports and wireless Android Auto integration to Apple CarPlay integration.

Cupra has made some modifications to the chassis, including a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline motor with 300 horsepower (221 Kilowatts) as well as 400 Newton-meters (295 pounds-feet). These changes were made to provide the crossover with the most unique, precise, and involved ride possible.

Performance-wise, the Cupra Ateca Limited Edition’s 0-60 mph (100 km/h), takes just 4.9 seconds. Top speed is a respectable 150 mph (247 km/h). It’s available with an all-wheel drive system and a seven speed dual-clutch auto transmission.

Cupra will be selling the Ateca revised in Europe in the third quarter. Last year, more than 10,000 units were sold. This represents 15% of all Ateca sales. It is worth noting that the Ateca was first model to lose its SEAT badge. The Leon and Formentor were next, but the Formentor was a standalone model with no SEAT equivalent.

The spicy Ateca is made by Skoda in the Kvasiny plant, Czech Republic. The T–Roc R is largely the same Volkswagen model. The VW Group has a Cupra Leon wagon, while the VW core brand will sell (hopefully!) a new Golf R wagon.
