Ford will update its largest SUV, the Expedition, by lowering the starting price. The Expedition XL STX, which is a five-seater only vehicle, has been removed. This allows Ford to reduce its starting price by nearly $3,000
The base model starts at $49,995 MSRP and features 18-inch Magnetic Metal alloy wheels. It also has a five-bar front grille in glossy black. The 2021 Expedition XL STX comes with an eight-way, power driver’s chair with power lumbar. It also has manual recline. Ford includes the SYNC3 infotainment systems with an 8-inch touchscreen and support both Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The Expedition XL STX is the value-oriented version of the large SUV . It still has a tri-zone automatic temperature control system, Wi Fi hotspot through a 4G connection and four 12-volt outlets. There are also four USB ports. The second row can be folded flat to provide additional cargo storage space, allowing for a total of 104.6 cubic feet (2.961 liters). A cargo management system is available, complete with a cargo protector, and a cargo net.
The EcoBoost V6 engine produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb/ft (637 Nm) torque. It is connected to the rear wheels by a 10-speed auto transmission. Customers can also have the body-on frame SUV with four-wheel drive, and an electronic limited slip differential for an additional fee. Optional is the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package. It includes Pro Trailer Backup Assist, a trailer brake, and heavy-duty radiator.
The 2021 Expedition XL STX comes with the Heavy-Duty Tow Package, which costs $795. It has a towing capacity that is 9,300 pounds for the two-wheel drive variant and 9,200 for the four-wheel-drive model. Both are Ford’s best-in-class models.
The configurator already lists this new full-size SUV, with a $750 incentive. The all-paw Expedition raises the starting price by $3.050, while the eLSD adds $1,100. It’s very basic equipment, with only a reverse sensing system ($110), an engine block heater ($100), and a cargo mat ($40).
Ford dealers have already begun to take orders for the 2021 Expedition XL STX.
