2021 Hofele HG 63 Sport Is A Mild/Wild Take on AMG G-Wagen

Upgrades to the aftermarket without getting all shouty.

This is a route we’ve traveled before. This Mercedes-Benz G-Class , notably the AMG G63, is a popular aftermarket choice for adding bling to your vehicle and delivering performance. It’s true that beauty is subjective. However, it’s not hard to see when tuners can go too far. Hofele seems to be able to see this, as we have seen several vehicles from the German company. Each vehicle has been surprisingly modest. This G63 latest offering is no exception.

It’s officially called the HG 63 Sport. This curious blend of wild and mild is truly remarkable. As the main focus of all the changes is at the front, the exterior emphasises the mild side. Hofele has added a new bumper to the Panamericana grille and modified it with the company’s H logo replacing the three-pointed Star. The vehicle rides on Hofele’s 24-inch cross-spoke tires. There is matte carbon trim throughout the car, which contrasts with the striking exterior shade Moonbeam Silver. It has no wings, vents, or visors. It’s just so mild.

Things tend to be wilder inside, but that is a good thing. The entire greenhouse has been redone with either leather or Alcantara in bright Bengal Red. The bright colors are a contrast to the exterior silver, but it’s more fun for passengers in the rear. Hofele uses individual seating and a center console. The seats can be moved back several inches to increase legroom. This G63 is a luxurious transport vehicle that functions in a similar fashion to an S Class. The back seats allow for extreme comfort.

Driver and passengers will eventually need to enter and leave. Hofele has added a pair full-length retractable running board that can be used for all four doors. The tuner adjusts the pipes to move with the boards in order to make it work with the AMG side exit exhaust. The entire exhaust system has been replaced by a valve-controlled system which allows the twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 to sing its tune. This is only when it’s necessary. This is a luxury SUV that can still be considered civilized.

Luxury and customization require a lot of money. Hofele does not provide a cost estimate for the upfit. However, the company estimates that a G63 equipped with HG 63 Sport would cost in the region of EUR300,000. This is equivalent to around $356,200.
