Next year, a version with a longer wheelbase is planned.
Volkswagen had teased a new caddy-based camper to be added to their recreational vehicle line by the end of July. It turns out that it is the VW Caddy California, the latest addition to the California camper range.
The fifth-generation Caddy is the smallest member in the California family and offers the same living space as its larger brothers. This is the ideal size for a couple, or small family looking to take a weekend trip or quick getaway without bringing a large motorhome.
There are many features to the VW Caddy California. One of them is the pull-out cooking area that includes a single-hob gas cooker with windshield, shelf and windshield. A 15.1-foot (1.4-meter) panoramic glass roof is also available, which acts as an infinite starlight ceiling at nights.
The VW Caddy California includes a fold-out bed measuring almost 2m (6.5ft) in length. For better comfort, it has cup springs as well as a high-quality mattress.
The modular tent system is another notable feature. The tent can be attached to the Caddy California to extend the sleeping area. It is freestanding and not required for use. The tent can be combined with a table and chairs for camping, which can be stored at the rear. This makes it ideal for outdoor adventures.
The new VW Caddy California comes with a wheelbase length of 4,501 millimeters (177.2 in). It will be available for sale in Europe at the end of 2012. Next year will see the introduction of a longer wheelbase model, 4,853mm (191.1 inches).
The Caddy California, despite its name, is not available in the U.S.
