2022 Audi A8 Facelift Revealed with Wider Grille and Updated Lights

Audi’s flagship vehicle will now be available with the S Line package for the first time.

Although Audi has increased the number of SUVs and crossover models in recent years, the A8 full-size sedan is still its flagship model. With a number of exterior changes and all of the technology the Four Rings have, the fourth generation of Ingolstadt’s range-topper is now in the second phase.

The base of the singleframe grille of Audi is now wider than ever. You’ll also notice more chrome on the fascia. Side air intakes on the bumper are now more upright and the new headlights, which contain no less than 1.3 million micromirrors to enable the digital matrix function, sit above them. They are highly adaptable.

Audi will offer its A8 luxobarge with an option S Line exterior package. This is the first time that the A8 has been offered since 1994. The back features digital OLED taillights that are standard on all Audi models and have new graphics to match the latest Audi models. This gives the Mercedes S Class a more modern look when viewed from the side.

The exterior tweaks include four new metallic paint options (District Green and Firmament Blue, Manhattan Gray and Ultra Blue), as well as five matte shades (Daytona Gray and Floret Silver), District Green, Terra Gray and Glacier White. The exterior chrome and black packages have been retained.

The interior of the A8 was already top-notch before the facelift. This is why the German luxury brand has made only subtle improvements to the luxurious cabin. The new Audi Virtual Cockpit features an optional head-up display, while the center console houses a pair of touchscreens measuring 10.2 inches and 8.6 inches. Two additional screens are located in the rear for the rear-seat entertainment system with 10.1-inch displays.

The A8L Horch is the most significant novelty in the interior, which was actually announced last week. The extra-long sedan is a China-exclusive affair. It measures in at 5.45 meters (17.9 ft) long.

Extras like deep-pile floor mats and “Horch” embossing in cushions, as well as more diamond quilting, real wood trim, and more are available for the ultra-luxe version. It can be distinguished outside by its distinctive grille, which has vertical bars and is hand-applied with two-tone paints. There are also Horch emblems and more chrome.

The A8 Horch is only available in China with a V6 engine, but the European A8/A8 L can be ordered with either the 3.0 or 4.0 TFSI units, in different states of tunes. There’s also a diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrain. They are all based on the pre-facelift model. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the W12.

The updated Audi A8 will be available in Europe starting December. Prices in Germany for the base model start at EUR99,000.
