It’s coming to America, yes.
Alpina gives a unique flavor to the BMW models who wear its badge. It was known for some time that the 8 series Gran Coupe would be available with the Alpina treatment. Surprised, the 2022 BMW Alpina B8 Gran Coupe leaps over the 600 horsepower mark to meet the B8 Gran Coupe Competition.
This is the first point we’ll discuss. From the twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V8 under its longhood, the B8 Gran Coupe produces 612 horsepower (456 kilowatts). The torque measured in at 590 lbft (800 Newton-meters), and this should sound familiar. These same specs can be found in the Alpina XB7. However, the Gran Coupe’s performance is definitely better. BMW claims that the Alpina B8 can reach 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. This is just slightly slower than its M-badged counterparts. The B8’s top speed of 201 miles puts it ahead of its rivals.
The Alpina’s gut-punch is delivered on a more elaborate plate. The B8’s suspension has Eibach springs and stiffer suspension mount mounts. There are hyrdo mountings in the front for increased ride comfort. Tuning also includes reinforcement of the front axle’s sway bars and stiffer lower wishbone mountings. Alpina tunes the Integral Active Steering System for better feedback.
It’s supported by Alpina’s 20-spoke wheels in 21 inch sizes. These wheels are wrapped in Pirelli rubber, which BMW claims is “specially adapted for the BMW Alpina B8 vehicle concept.” You can also get 20-inch wheels with all season tires. The super sedan is also equipped with four-piston Brembo brakes that are blue-caliper-equipped.Visually speaking, you’ll find Alpina handiwork front and rear with new fascias. At the nose you’ll see large air intakes, while the rear incorporates a lip spoiler, a black diffuser insert, and it houses Alpina’s oval tips for the upgraded exhaust. The greenhouse is also awash with Alpina touches, not the least of which being an abundance of wood trim, leather, and Alcantara. You’ll find plenty of Alpina branding as well, from illuminated door sills to badges on the center console, the digital instrument cluster, and there’s prominent Alpina badging on the exterior to complement the Green Metallic finish.
The B8 Gran Coupe will be available in the U.S., as previously stated. The B8 Gran Coupe is expected to be in showrooms by late spring at a starting price $139,900. This is about $10,000 more than the standard M8 Gran Coupe and $3,000 less that the competition M8 Gran Coupe Competition. Pricing doesn’t include a $995 destination fee.
