2022 BMW M240ixDrive Extends in Acceleration Test, Top Speed Run

The top speed limiter could have made it go faster.

The new M240ixDrive, like all other M Performance models is not an M car. We are still pleasantly surprised that the coupe still features a straight-six engine in an age where everyone is downsizing or electrifying. BMW refused to switch to a four-cylinder engine, keeping the 3.0-liter unit M2-only to justify its premium.

YouTubers who were invited to test the 2 Series Coupe by BMW have now published their videos. Automann TV was one of those YouTubers that drove the car at maximum speed on the Autobahn in Germany. To match the official Bavaria speed, he ran a short acceleration test on a country road before he reached the highway. He completed the sprint to 62 MPH (100 Km/h) in 4.39 seconds.

The M240ixDrive reduced the time by 3.9 seconds with a rollout. This confirms that there is a significant gap between the moment the car starts to accelerate and the moment it’s in motion. It is also worth noting that the second measurement was taken from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) and not 62 mph (101/h), which clearly counts.

The Autobahn began with an acceleration test of the M Performance 2 Series Coupe at speeds ranging from 62 mph (10 km/h), to 124mph (10 km/h), and then to determine how it would perform in the final sprint. Based on the professional data logger in the test car, the task took 10.6 seconds. The electronic top speed limiter was activated and the car reached a little more than 155 mph (250 km/h). However, the reviewer believes the M240ixDrive “could do much more.”

BMW currently offers the car only with AWD, but a version for those who prefer a more tail-happy ride will be available. Unfortunately, this one will also be an automatic-only affair. This is similar to the 2 Series Coupe version. Only exception to this rule is the highly anticipated M2, which will be available next year with RWD, unlike its big brother M4, which can be purchased with the xDrive badge.
