2022 Ford Edge will cost more than Explorer after going AWD-Only

Is the Ford Edge 2022’s value proposition still worth it?

The Edge is just below the Explorer in the Ford SUV and crossover hierarchy. Despite having more seats and being larger, the Explorer is smaller. It is possible that this might not be true in terms of pricing for the 2022 model year.

Carsdirect.com has reported that the 2022 Edge SE will see a price increase based on Ford’s order guide. Why is this? According to reports, all MY22 Edge crossovers are going to be all-wheel drive. The Edge’s base MSRP is likely to rise by approximately $2,100 if this happens. The most affordable Edge (SE FWD), starts at $33,995 including the destination fee. The Edge is a two-row, mid-sized crossover that costs $36,000. However, it will be more expensive than its larger brother.

The order guide states that the 2022 Edge is priced at $36,150 including destination. The Explorer Base RWD is the least expensive at $34,170. This Explorer model is not the most expensive and doesn’t have all-wheel drive. However, it is large and has a lot of seating. The Edge has more standard features, but equipment levels are still good.

This adjustment may not be helpful if Ford intends to sell more Edge crossovers this fiscal year. Ford sold 48,213 Edges last month. But that number pales in comparison with the Explorer, which saw 140,082 homes added during the same time period. The Explorer tends to offer better deals and are more attractive for Edge buyers.

This two-row crossover has the edge over its larger stablemate. It is the best in handling, maneuverability and fuel economy. The Explorer’s power, seat capacity, and towing abilities cannot be ignored. It will be fascinating to see how Ford keeps Edge sales moving, despite the increase in price.
