2022 Ford Expedition Hybrid Selected for First-Time Testing

This is a prototype of an electrified full-size SUV.

The new generation Ford F-150 is out and the full-size SUV version will be getting a major overhaul.

The next-generation Ford Expedition has been spotted in testing by a Motor1.com reader. He spotted the vehicle while cruising along I-75 in Michigan. The prototype was also tested by our spy photographers. This time it is in all-white with camo wraps on its front and rear fascia. It’s also the Ford Expedition Hybrid expected, which is a hybrid version of the truck.

Although the sighting is documented in still images only, our spies saw and heard the hybrid powertrain firsthand. The 2022 Expedition will likely use the PowerBoost V6 setup. This is similar to the F-150. It combines a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine with a 35-kilowatt-hour electric motor with a 1.5-kilowatt-hour battery. This unit is mated to an automatic 10-speed transmission. It produces 430 horsepower (321 Kilowatts) as well as 570 pound-feet (773 Newton meters) of torque. The truck can tow up to 12,000 pounds.

The hybrid powertrain will be available alongside the twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, the latter being reserved for Expedition buyers.

The interior of the 2022 Ford Expedition will be significantly redesigned. Along with many other improvements, a larger infotainment system is more likely to be standard.

The new Expedition will arrive in time for the 2022 model-year along with the updated Lincoln Navigator. As of this writing, the Blue Oval has not yet revealed a date for launch. However, we will continue to receive more sightings and information from them throughout the year.
