Only the standard model has the rugged trim.
Ford updated the Expedition this week and introduced the Timberline trim to the model. Although the package offers several upgrades to the SUV’s off-road capabilities, it will not be available in both configurations. The Blue Oval informed Ford Authority it does not plan to make a long-wheelbase Max Expedition Timberline.
When the 2022 Expedition goes on sale, the Timberline trim will be only available for the regular-wheelbase Expedition. Although the Expedition Max offers more interior space and cargo room than the regular-wheelbase Expedition, it won’t increase its capabilities. The regular-sized Ford SUV is the best option for those who want a massive SUV.
Timberline models have a 10.6 inch ground clearance. They also come with underbody protection borrowed from F-150 Raptor and the Bronco Trail Turn Assist system. The Goodyear Wrangler AT tires measuring 33.3 inches are located at each corner. The taller ride height improves the vehicle’s approach and departure angles.
Ford’s twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 is powering the 2022 Expedition Timberline. It generates 440 horsepower (692 Newton-meters), and 510 poundfeet (692 kilowatts). The vehicle also has a 2-speed transmission case. Ford differentiates the Expedition Timberline with orange exterior accents. Ford also announced the Stealth Edition Performance Package 2022 along with several other updates.
As automakers continue to offer new models, the largest SUV segment is becoming more crowded. As more people get involved in off-roading, the Expedition will be more appealing to more people. It has the potential, the Expedition Timberline with Jeep Wagoneer & the Chevrolet Tahoe will go on sale in the first quarter 2022.
