As an option, the four-wheel drive system will be available.
Following recent news of a one off tuned Ford Explorer ST arriving at the Woodward Dream Cruise’s, there is a rumor about the midsize crossover. The Explorer ST will arrive for the 2022 model-year, according to insiders.
The Intelligent 4WD system is standard on both the Explorer ST model and the less expensive Enthusiast ST models. This rumor is not true, and the 2022 Explorer will arrive in showrooms this fall.
As an option, the four-wheel drive system is likely to be available. The Intelligent 4WD option is available for an additional $750 in the Explorer Platinum trim. This trim level has lost AWD as a standard feature starting in 2021.
Ford can reduce the Explorer ST’s price, however. This is despite an increase in the Explorer Enthusiast ST’s price last June, which was followed by a huge price drop for the 2021 model-year. A price drop is a good idea if you are looking for a family hauler that can handle cemented roads.
We’d be remiss to not mention that the Ford Explorer ST’s transition to standard RWD is still a rumor – at least, until we hear from the Blue Oval.
We will likely hear more about Explorer over the coming weeks and months, considering that Ford is constantly updating its lineup. Keep an eye out for new developments.
