2022 Genesis G80 Sport unveiled with rear-wheel steering

Inside, the new red finish continues.

The Genesis G80 was originally a Hyundai Genesis. It was rebranded as the standalone luxury marque in 2016. In late March 2020, the midsize luxury sedan was upgraded to the second generation. It also became the first EV manufactured by the Korean premium brand.

The G80 lineup is being redesigned by Genesis with the addition of the Sport model. The new bumpers for the BMW 5 Series competitor have been redesigned to make it stand out with larger air vents at both the front and back.

The amount of chrome used in sporty-looking luxury cars is usually reduced, but the Sport looks just as glamorous as the rest of the G80 family. The model-exclusive alloy wheels measure 20 inches and have a unique spoke design that gives it a dark appearance. The press images show the brake calipers being shown in red at the front and black at the rear.

Genesis has installed the G80 Sport’s three-spoke steering wheels with red stitching. This is in addition to the Sevilla Red leather upholstery that extends onto the lower half and the door cards. This new version features carbon and real aluminum finishes, just like the diamond-patterned hybrid weaving patterns.

The vehicle’s market launch is scheduled for Q3 2021. We will provide more details closer to that date. Genesis has confirmed that the G80 Sport’s rear-wheel steering reduces the turning circle and makes the sedan more maneuverable in tight spots. We’ll be curious to see how the rear wheel turns. However, we will remind you that the Mercedes S-Class optional system allows for a rear steering angle up to 10 degrees.

A twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine will provide power. It produces 375 horsepower and 391 lbft (530 Nm) in the regular G80. You can see the “4WD” badge on the trunk lid. This means that power will go to all four wheels. Last note: The G80 Sports used quad exhaust, while this one uses dual tips.
