The Maybach S-Class is in the crosshairs of the stretched version.
The Genesis G90 feels fresh, and with good reason. This is despite the fact that the 2018 version of the luxobarge was released in 2018. But, it wasn’t a second generation model. It was a major facelift to the EQ900 that Hyundai launched in late 2015. Genesis was established as a luxury brand. The model has been redesigned and is now ready to compete with the Germans.
The Crest corporate grille, which is imposing, is flanked with the “Two Lines”, headlight motif that all Genesis models have, including the GV60 or the G70 Shooting Brake. The G90’s revamped G90 adopts a clamshell roof to make the front fascia more clean and have fewer gaps.
The G90’s white version is the standard G90. However, the blue variant has a longer wheelbase and is wider than the G90. It’s not the first time Genesis has given its flagship a LWB version. In fact, the predecessor model also produced a Limousine version for its domestic market in the early part of 2019. The new model, which is longer than the original, will not be exclusive to South Korea.
Both models have pop-out door handles. You can tell which one is which from the size of the rear doors on the Maybach S-Class or Audi A8L Horch rivals. Genesis also has distinct 20-inch wheel sets. One is more special than another. We would choose to go with the complex design of the SWB’s alloys, but they look a lot more difficult to clean due to the multitude of interconnected lines.
The G90’s new side turn signals are the largest we have ever seen on a production vehicle. This continues the “Two Lines” theme of the stylish split headlights. This same lighting concept is evident at the rear, where separate rows of LED bars run across the entire length of the bumper. The integrated trunk lid spoiler is reminiscent of the older-generation models. It’s similar to the trapezoidal dual exhaust tips.
Genesis has not revealed any technical details at this time, but the addition aft of the rear doors of a fixed-glass window tells us that the elegant sedan is longer than the predecessor. Our spy photos of the prototype revealed some details about the interior. The dashboard’s screen weight will not absorb the temperature controls as the touchscreen is too heavy, since the test car still had separate buttons for HVAC.
We’re looking forward to seeing the luxurious cabin and the specifications sheet in the coming weeks. Genesis has confirmed that the G90 will not be coming to Europe. However, the Old Continent will receive the G70 wagon, which was made specifically for this region.
It has been a busy year for the company with the introduction of the Electrified GV70, and Electrified G80 models. These join the GV60 as well as the long-roof G70. The G80 Sport is also important as Genesis continues to expand its product range and enter the Euro market.
