2022 GMC Sierra Getting Shortened Model Year As Holdover Model

It will be known as the 1500 Limited.

Last December’s spy shots showed GMC building a new Sierra. However, it has not been seen since. The pickup was expected to arrive in 2022, according to GM-Trucks.com. However, a new report suggests that it has not been seen since. According to the report, the 2022 Sierra will be used as a continuation model until the updated version is available for 2023.

GM-Trucks.com was informed of the production changes via a bulletin General Motors that was sent to dealers on Wednesday morning. GM stated that the 2022 Sierra would be known as the 1500 Limited, because it will have a shorter model year and will include all the models and trims currently in production. Mid-July will bring details about the GMC Sierra 1500 Limited 2022.

GM has not explained why the 2022 Sierra Limited will be a shorter model year or why it will be a continuation the current model. However, there may be other reasons. Automakers including GM have been suffering huge production problems due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has strained the supply of new vehicles in response to increased demand. Further limiting vehicle development and production is the chip shortage.

A “short model year” is a hint that the refreshed Sierra could be available sometime in the middle of the model year. This isn’t the first time that an automaker has changed products during the middle of the year. Two engine options would be lost from the 2022 Sierra, a 4.3-liter V6 as well as one version of 5.3-liter VI8, which is more logical if GMC makes it a Limited model. In a few weeks we will learn more about the GMC Sierra 1500 Limited 2022 GMC and when it will be refreshed.
