2022 Honda Civic Type R in Unofficial Renderings

Next year, the new hot hatch will be available.

Honda unveiled last week the 2022 Civic Hatchback, giving us our first glimpse of the next-generation Civic Type R. Honda has been using the Type R’s five-door version of the iconic compact since 1997. KDesign AG has created two renderings of the Civic Type R’s future look after the hatchback was revealed.

These renderings depict a Honda equipped with the Type R upgrades. The hatch has the same aggressive front bumper as the current car. It sits beneath a red Honda badge, and Type R branding in a narrow grille. The rear bumper is similar, with the bumper located between the hatches and triple-outlet exhaust. The look is completed by a huge spoiler and red-accented sills. Spy shots of a Type R camouflaged model suggested that the model might get subtler styling updates.

The full reveal will be made next year and it will debut alongside the Civic Hybrid. Although there is a lot of speculation, little information exists about the Type R. It will be available with a manual transmission, which will allow for more power to the front wheels. The Civic Hatchback will use a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine. This should give it a slight power boost over the existing engine’s 306 horsepower (228 kilowatts) output. Honda will not be changing the formula.

Although the renderings do not show what the Type R will look like in reality, they give a glimpse of a sporty hatch. The Type R will likely follow Honda’s minimalistic design for the Civic hatch. The new Civic is more mature than its predecessor, and could be a constraint for the Type R. But, a pair of aggressive bumpers or a wild wings can transform the Civic’s design, making it louder than ever.
